Funerals

St Margaret’s Church is a peaceful church in which to hold a funeral

We are here to help you

After the death of a loved one, there is always much to do, and at St Margaret’s Church we are here to help you through the process of preparing for a funeral. If you would like advice on finding a Funeral Director, please do ask us. We would always advise that you choose an independent Funeral Director, and if you would like to check this with us we can advise you.

You may want to hold a funeral in St Margaret’s Church because you live locally, or have a connection with Babington, or simply to do something differently.

The Church may be used for Christian services and for appropriate cultural events with the permission of the Trustees.

You may wish to have:

  • A funeral in the Church, followed by a burial in the Churchyard
  • A funeral in the Church, followed by a cremation and then a burial of the cremated remains in the Churchyard at a later date
  • A funeral in the Church, followed by a cremation
  • A cremation first, followed by a funeral in the Church
  • Exclusive venue hire

    +

If you hold Membership with Soho House, stay at Babington House with your guests, taking over the whole house. Your funeral will normally take place during the full day, which is usually a Thursday.

  • Ceremony in the church

    +

Have the funeral in St Margaret’s Church, with a reception somewhere completely different. There will be restrictions on where photographs may be taken, owing to the privacy rights of other people staying at Babington House.

Number of guests

St Margaret’s Church can hold a maximum of 90 people, which includes the Vicar and verger, organist and any other musicians, photographer, etc.

90 people includes both adults and children. Dogs are also very welcome.

The Vicar

All funerals will be conducted by the Vicar of St Margaret’s Church, Revd Clarissa Cridland, or in her absence another Church of England priest, or a priest/minister of another Christian church.

Please do feel free to discuss any of this with Clarissa. In the first instance, please get in touch with our Ceremonies Officer, Becky Kingston-Wood, who will advise you on cost and introduce you to Clarissa.
