The Vicar

Revd Clarissa Cridland is the Vicar of East Mendip Trinity benefice

Serving the parishes of Coleford, Holcombe and Kilmersdon with Babington

She says, "I have had a slightly unusual 'career' as a vicar. I moved to Coleford in 1982. I was finally ordained deacon in 2005 and priest in 2006, becoming curate of Coleford with Holcombe, and then in late 2015 moved 100 yards up the road into the Vicarage to become vicar. In October 2021, Kilmersdon with Babington joined us, although it took until January 2023 for this to become legal."

Within the Benefice there are three parish churches and then two additional churches – Holcombe Old Church and St Margaret’s Babington.

“I share the Vicarage with a friend and two black-and-white cats, Jack and Jill. They, especially Jack, often come into Holy Trinity Coleford, although luckily they have not yet brought in a mouse to the church, although Jack did once bring in a slow worm in the middle of the Sunday morning service!

I am actually a half-time vicar. In the other half of my life I jointly run Girls Gone By Publishers and Friends of the Chalet School. A typical day might consist of printing out orders, preparing a wedding service, typesetting a book, discussing the date for a Christening, sending out magazine articles for proofing, preparing a funeral, a meeting on Zoom or in person and answering masses and masses of emails! I live with M.E. so need to pace myself. And I absolutely love what I do.”
